Completely Clueless

While it is true that my hairdresser helps maintain my sun-kissed glow, the dizziness and air coming out of my head are all natural.

Both of my boys changed their outfits for school when James remembered that his teacher said to wear red, white, and blue. Oh? Some activity at school I wondered? I didn't see a note.

Whilst traveling about, I noticed the flags on cars. Neighbors had their flags hoisted on their homes. Is it Flag Day? When IS Flag Day? There were red, white, and blue daisy bouquets in the floral department.

It wasn't until I was flipping through the Tivo options (which were minimal) that I noticed the recording date of 9/11. How unpatriotic of me. I didn't even realize.

I do remember that day. I was home in a messy house at my wits end. James was 2 1/2 & Jacob was just over a year. I was entrenched in young motherhood and didn't realize that I was also struggling with depression. I had been dealing with a nonstop headache for coming on 40 days (I'm not exaggerating). Jon called from work and told me to turn on the t.v. I saw the footage of the towers falling repeatedly throughout the day. I couldn't take my eyes off it. I was shocked and unable to feel or comprehend.

Honestly, one of my personal first thoughts was, "how am I supposed to process this tragedy, sadness, and loss when I can't even handle my own daily crisis." I cried a lot at unexpected times. Sometimes for the world at large, but often just for me. It took me months to dig out of the rubble in my personal life. I remember the year of 9/11 as being a very sad time.

Thankfully, we rebuild and we grow. That's what I've done.

This picture is a blast from the past. I didn't take any fancy red, white, & blue pictures today. James was 5 1/2, Jacob was ready to turn 4, and Jessica was just 3 months old.
