Perfect Takes Practice

Practice makes perfect and perfect takes practice. That's what I've always been told. So I invited my friend Janelle over to practice. Her kids were much more agreeable than mine. While they are perfectly adorable, the pictures aren't technically perfect. It's been a good experiment. A month later, I was finally able to order some prints to give her for Mothers Day.

  2. Backgrounds: I just bought some black fabric. I like the velvet piece better. It's best if you can put your subject a few feet in front of the fabric, but my baby has to lie on it. The blue is an old queen sized sheet. The ones with the little girl we put pink tulle in front of the black. That softened everything up.

Properties: I shot everything in manual mode (since that is what I'm trying to practice). I think I had my ISO up to 800 maybe even 1600 at times. I needed more light even in front of the window. The aperture was between 2.8 and 3.5 which makes it tricky to get a good focus with moving kids. Then the shutter speed was as high as I could go to get a good exposure. I used the community version of noiseware (it's a free download) to get rid of a bunch of the blotchiness that came with such a high ISO.
