Ace!

James is a very responsible student. This has been a grand blessing to me while I've had my mind going in 20 different directions. Thankfully he is reliable with his homework and assignments. He is always reading a book and is already accumulating points in his reading program. He was very embarrassed that he had to stand on stage while the principal read this tribute from his teacher. He started to fidget and be a little silly.

Room 20 is proud to recognize James as a Student of the Month for September. He is a dedicated student giving a 100% of his effort in anything he does. He does well in math, and though he does not care for running he is very fast. James enjoys spending time with his large family and playing video games. He likes the idea of "going places" in the games and doing cool things. James has a great sense of humor and a positive attitude. When it comes to his school work he is eager to learn and participate in all classroom activities. Congratulations James!

James recently finished his first oral presentation. He does NOT like public speaking. It is difficult for him to find words - especially since he gets very nervous. James studied 6 California state symbols. (State Bird: quail, State Flower: poppy, State Marine Mammal: gray whale, State Animal: California Grizzly Bear - which is extinct by the way, State tree: redwood, & State Seal). I learned all about them as we practiced his presentation. I was proud of him for doing his part, memorizing the many facts, and trying his best in an uncomfortable situation. I was floored when he came home with 100%. I guess he was only required to touch on 5 symbols. So even though he forgot a few facts under pressure, he had plenty of info to score all the points. Great Job James!!!

Here's his grading rubric:

Posture - 3 points
Voice - 4 points
Presentation - 4 points
Preparation - 5 points
Information - 9 points
