Ten on Tuesday

1- I admit that I was disgruntled by the emptiness of my blog reader this past week. Why can't you all post something EVERY day??? Then I realized I haven't posted for TWO weeks myself. Oops. Special thanks to one of my FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHERS who posts practically daily. LOVE her inspiration HERE.

2- Truthfully, I'm posting this on Wednesday. I couldn't even pull it together yesterday to do my one random post. I totally backdated the date.

3- My Monday was another day straight from the archives of constant headache pounding madness. It started the minute I woke up and proceeded full throttle all day. I thank my Sweetie for taking BOTH Jayson & Jessica on his errand to the Boy Scouts of America store, so I could lie in bed with the blinds drawn and my eye mask on. He also made the dinner.

4- On days where all I feel is pain, it's a real test. I have no patience, no tolerance for noise, no spring in my step, and I'm no fun. Who needs a mother like that? It makes me sad that I essentially miss a day of my life. I'm still waiting for a morning that I wake up without this tedious tension headache. Still trying to smile my way through it.

5- Baby Jayson (who is now 14 months old) loves to slide his hands up my sleeves or cling on to my tees. He doesn't need a blankie or a pacifier, just a chance to hang on tight to his momma. He doesn't let me hold him much because he's too busy unrolling the plastic garbage bags, sorting items from the recycle bin onto the kitchen tiles, unfolding anything in symmetrical stacks, emptying the wipes container, getting the broom and dustpan out, unloading the diaper pail, turning on the bath water (we even removed the fancy handles, but he can still twist the stubs), sorting through Polly Pocket clothes, or sneaking up to brothers' room to steal the trophies.

6- Our backyard is transforming into a mini fruit orchard. I say mini because the less expensive trees need to grow for about 5 years before they'll really be producing fruit. We already had an unproductive nectarine tree. We are adding a peach variety that is needed to cross-pollinate with the nectarine. My mom didn't teach me THAT version of birds & bees. Jon has been researching how to grow lots of fruit trees in a small space. He's also found varieties that will fruit on different months so ONE DAY we or the owners of this home will have quite a harvest.

7- I meant to share more about James and his basketball. I am just sincerely spacey - I'm not trying to be an airhead because I think it's cute or I'm hoping to attract attention. I just have never felt quite so blond, unorganized, and incapable of remember stuff.

8- I've had a couple recipe flops. Why change a good thing? The answer is: you shouldn't.

I was making a quick chocolatey no-bake cookie. Oops - I accidentally put in too much milk. So I doubled the rest of the ingredients. Then I got a brilliant idea to boost the nutrition and get rid of some of our wheat germ. The wheat germ soaked up all the moisture, so I was rolling out WAY dry not so delightful cookie morsels. No - this mustn't be, so I made a new batch of fudgey part and added the dry stuff into it. Turned out to be a decent compromise. Except for that: there was no fore-seeing just how intently the wheat germ was going to effect the digestive flow of said yummy cookies. Nobody eats JUST ONE yummy cookie. And it had added health benefits. Surely we got plenty of fiber. I won't do that again!!!!!

9- My dear friend and hair dresser of ten years recently moved. My locks will never be the same.

10- I don't have any of my side links of favorite photographers anymore. That was an accident when I deleted my blog template when I THOUGHT I was backing it up some time ago. I'm not sure what else is missing. I don't spend a lot of time maintaining my link lists. If you are my friend and you are so sad that I haven't linked you, will you send me an e-mail. Truly - not on purpose. If you are a friend that I have linked and you'd prefer that my fanclub (all 22 of us) didn't skip on over to your blog, just tell me and I'll remove the link.

Ten On Tuesday

1- STILL fighting lingering cold and I'm cranky about it :)

2- I went to The Little Mermaid Ballet with my daughter and all her preschool classmates. I enjoyed it, but I still like musicals & lyrics.

3- I still think that I'm going to take Jayson's picture in his football jersey from Halloween - even though I don't have a cute leather football for him to hold.

4- I also still think that I'm going to take Jayson's 1st birthday picture of him and his cupcake.

5- Sometimes I get ideas in my head that nag me again and again, but I still don't get to them.

6- Jayson's hair might be going blond. Now I CAN'T cut his curls because then he may not have any red left.

7- Did I mention that Jacob went back to school last week. He was excited - spring in his step. I was slowing him down because I insisted on bringing the camera.

8- I admit that I had to choke back tears after I left his classroom. It was worse than the first day of kindergarten. I'm going to miss him.

9- I realized that I can be a PEACEMAKER in my home instead of a REFEREE. The paradigm shift has not made me perfect, but I'm trying much harder.

10-Oh wait, it's St. Patrick's Day. I have recent pics of each of my kids in GREEN. Enjoy!

I wanted a pic of Jayson walking. He was ticked that Jacob kept bringing him across the lawn. He wasn't in the best mood when he came running back to me.

Oh- not all of those boys are mine. Guess I already shared the trio of mine together.

Sometimes I Forget

Actually I have four kids. I just can't seem to photograph them together. Fussy baby got to nap while I took the others for photography practice at the park. I think I owe them doughnuts.

I also forgot that I needed to be home before 7:00 p.m. so my Sweetie could go to a scouting meeting. I'm in the doghouse. I don't know if doughnuts will be enough to get out of this one.

Wonderful or Not, It's Wednesday

Last week our whole family was packed in a minivan and driving on I-15 ALL DAY to visit our family in Utah. Being all together - being well - not tons of quarreling - anticipation of playing with family - super Wonderful!!! And the Wonderful lasted all weekend long.

This Wednesday - I'm totally sick. Lost my voice completely. Totally sleep deprived, SOOOOOO achy, and stuffy. Somebody gets sick EVERY time we go to Utah. Congratulations TO ME.

Jacob is back in school. You should have seen the grin on his face and the spring in his step on Monday morning. Or maybe I'll show you if I ever get around to posting the photos I insisted on taking.

I've been resting all day, now I can't sleep even though my body needs extra. But I'm too sluggish to write anything fancy or open the hundreds of Utah pics. So, goodnight for now.

My, How Handsome

Wonderful Wednesday was really wonderful for MOM. I got to take my handsome boy out to take photos. He was very cooperative too. The bribe about going to the bakery after seemed to help.

LOVE

LOVEWB
Rivals
I love my Middle Children. This pair fight like cats and dogs. They each know which buttons to push. I know they love each other. I hope this is just normal wear and tear of being siblings. I hope they grow up to be wonderful friends.

This is the last day that we had this charm. It fell off sometime after the photoshoot.

Ten On Tuesday

1- I didn't come up with this idea. Several of the blogs I read have a weekly entry called 10 on Tuesday. I thought it would be a good way to toss out snippets of what I've been meaning to blog about. I totally shouldn't be on the computer. I have a long list of things that HAVE TO be done today.

2- Jayson can climb stairs and recently demonstrated his ability to flush the toilet. Too bad he filled the toilet up with garbage first. Oh yeah, he figured out the wipe box too.

3- We took the kids up to Mt. Baldy for one last snow day last Monday. It was there minimum day. It was a total pain to get out the door, get everyone outfitted in bulky cold wear, etc.

4- We didn't stay in the mountain long. There was an avalanche - a loud rumbling then a glance upward showed me that there were boulders crashing down the side of the mountain.

5- My son Jacob was building a snowman under a tree maybe 50 feet from where the last of the debris landed. He fell into a snow duggout as he was trying to run away. No, I didn't photograph the avalanche. Once the kids were all in the car screaming, "PLEEAASE can we go home." I walked back and from a far distance snapped the setting. Jacob was playing by the tree that is just right of center. Further on the left you can see where the debris trickled down.

6- Jessica won't stop riding her bike down the sidewalk despite my SCREAMING like a crazy lady. I could see the car's tail light indicating it was backing out. Perhaps the driver heard my panicked screams because he/she stopped and Jessica kept riding on by.

7- I took the three kids over to watch the construction trucks. They are building a new church building just around the corner. Jayson wasn't convinced that he liked trucks. The tractors scared him.

8- I found a new recipe for homemade teriyaki chicken thighs. LOVE IT!

9- I cut sugar and simple carbs cold turkey 11 days ago. My crazy cravings are finally in the backseat.

10- I breathed a sigh of relief when I returned home from a very fun Dr. Seuss Themed Relief Society Birthday Dinner. Sitting on my porch was a box containing Jacob's baptism pics. YEAH!!!!

Meet NED, I mean Jacob

I haven't even published the best news ever. Jacob completed all of his end of treatment scans mid-February. This included: CT scan to chest, pelvis, & abdomen. Localized ultrasound at original tumor site. Full body bone scan. He also did his routine labs (bunch of blood tests). His doctor called to report that all the tests came back normal. His counts are great. He'll be returning to school soon.

N.E.D. stands for No Evidence of Disease. Among rhabdo parents (and perhaps other cancer patients) it's like getting an A+ on a report card.

Several weeks ago I was joking with Jacob that we want to call him Ned after all his scans. I explained that being NED is the best news a kid with cancer can get. It means that the doctors have looked all over the scans and can't find any cancer. We hope that they NEVER will be able to find it in him again.

Jacob thought it over for a moment. Then he said, "I just want to be Jacob."

Bless his kissable cheeks!!! Another lesson taught. Nobody wants to be defined by their disease. We just want to be ourselves.

In Jacob's medical file I'd love it if they stamped "N.E.D." in big bold red ink. But, at our house he's just our Jacob.
